The Home is located in the northeast corner of North Dakota, approximately 25 miles north of Grand Forks, ND on Interstate 29. The mailing address is Minto, ND but the Home is actually located in the village of Warsaw, ND. When can I come to the Home to live and how long can I stay after my baby is born? You can come to Saint Gianna’s Maternity Home at any time during your pregnancy. The length of stay after your baby is born will vary based on your individual life circumstances. A stay of 3-6 months after your baby is born would be an average. How old do I have to be to live at Saint Gianna’s Maternity Home? Women of all ages may live at the Home. However, admission of women under the age of 18 years will be assessed on an individual basis. Who should I talk to about coming to live at the Maternity Home? You may contact the Resident Director, Mary Pat Jahner, by phone, email, or letter to inquire about the Home. An appointment can be made to visit the Home first if you wish. By email: Where would I get medical care? There are three medical facilities close to Saint Gianna’s Home which offer excellent medical care. They are located in Park River and Grand Forks, ND (30 minute drive) and Grafton, ND (20 minute drive). You can choose where you would like to get medical care. I want to pursue my education. What is offered by Saint Gianna’s Maternity Home? Women who wish to pursue their education have many options. They may attend a local high school, take correspondence classes, take courses online, work towards a GED, take vocational classes, or attend a Tech School or University nearby. Educational efforts are highly encouraged, and there is a classroom in the Home with state of the art computers. Tutors are available if needed. If I already have children, can I bring them with me? Yes, women who are pregnant and already have children may bring them with to live at Saint Gianna’s Home. How many women can live at the Home? The State of North Dakota has licensed Saint Gianna’s Maternity Home to provide housing for a maximum of 19 women and/or children. How much does it cost to stay at Saint Gianna’s Home? No one is ever turned away due to lack of money. Each woman's circumstances and ability to contribute to her room and board will be evaluated on a case by case basis. Is the Home open to women of all faiths? Yes, our doors are open to all women. Women are expected to participate in grace before meals, evening prayer, and to attend a church of their choice on weekends. Many other opportunities are available for spiritual growth. |
